Compositionally I utilize a central, circular motif within a square frame to give the works an iconic appearance. This arrangement is understood by many cultures to represent the union of earthly matters and spirituality. The symbols I choose tap into archetypal imagery deep within the mind. The circle is associated with sacred and protected space, and the square represents the earth and expresses a human sense of wholeness. Our response to these symbols is learned from a particular culture, yet they are also subjective. I make symbolic images because they invite the viewer to adopt an intuitive mode of thinking and to explore the mystical, irrational and subconscious thought processes.
